Originated in LaHabra, Heights, California, by Rudolph Hass.
Introduced in 1936. The leading commercial variety in the world. Has one of the longest harvest seasons usually begining in February in Southern California. The fruits are pear shaped with pebbly green skin that ripens to black and are easy to peel, it is high in oil content with an excellent nutty rich flavor.
