The tree was originally found by Carlos Mendezin in a Hass orchard in Michoacan, Mexico in the 1980, it had unusual flowering habits (earlier than hass and sometimes several times a year) and tendency to ripen fruit during the off season.
It was patented as “Mendez No. 1” and is also sold under the trademarked name “Carmen Hass”.
In California this variety blossoms in August and September and also in February.
