Have you seen the small, pickle-shaped avocado fruits that don't have a seed?
They are called "cukes" (as in cucumbers) also "Cocktail Avocados" or "Finger Avocados". It’s more common on varieties like Fuerte and Ettinger.
Why avocado trees make cukes?
There is not a definite answer what causes some avocado trees to make cukes, one of the reasons seems to be a defect in the flower that results in seed degeneration a genetic mutation of the specific flower that turns into the cuke.
Can you eat cukes?
Of course, In fact I really look at Fuerte avocado Cukes as a treat and each year I look forward to see some cukes setting on the tree alongside the seeded fruits.
Cukes will be mature and ready to pick at the same time as regular fruit for example Fuerte cukes will be ready from December to April just like regular Fuerte fruits.
